A brief history

Humankind's attraction to beer goes back-- way back.  In fact, there is widespread belief (by bona fide scientists, no less) that ancient humans went from a hunter/gatherer existence to an agrarian one, not for the purpose of harvesting grain for bread but rather to brew beer with it.  The brewing process included boiling the wort (pronounced "wert," basically beer before it gets fermented), which was an effective way to purify drinking water of all the germs and other foulness that was and still is all around us all the time.  Imagine, it's quite possible that beer was the impetus to form civilization!  If you'd like to read more about this fascinating topic you can start here or here.  Suffice it to say that the enjoyment of fermented goods by humans has a long and rich history many thousands of years old, be it beer or wine, mead or cider (all of which we produce here).

Danse Macabre Brewing Company hasn't been around quite that long.  The earliest stirrings of its eventual conceptualization as a brewery can be found somewhere around 2007-- AD, not BCE.   A chance reintroduction to homebrewing occurred at that time; previously there was a brief run-in with it in the early '90s, when an engineer coworker was dabbling with it.  But this second time around the whole process took root in my very core.  Ever since then brewing has been a dear companion to me, and it is my hope that I have been a friend of equal measure to it, as well.

Cheers!
